More and more spreading of rhizomania in Serbia is one of the serious causes for reduction of the sugar beet production having in view exceptionally detrimental consequences caused by this disease. The paper shows the results of testing conducted in Zrenjanin in 1993, on the soils where the presence of a carrier of rhizomania was established. On the basis of a series of hybridization with the diploid mother 742 MS, individual yields of ten 4 n MM pollinizers contributed to the increase of tolerance to rhizomania in such a degree that in relation to the yield of granulated sugar, new experimental hybrids 742 MS x Rs 46-88 exceed the domestic standard Al Harmona by about 62 per cent.
