The draindge-aeration porosity of main vergin soil units is assessed in relation to their texture. The 21 soil profiles of main Bulgarian soil units have been involved in this study. The minimal value of drainage-aeration porosities (APmin,%v/v) observed at certain clay contents in the upper 0-30 cm layers of the studied vergin soil profiles can be described by a regression equation. APmin=22.8-0.70 clay+0.0065 clay2 R2=0.95, SE=1.58,where the clay content ranges from 5 to 56%(w/w). It was established that determination of the aeration conditions may occur in humuc horizons as well as in illuvial horizons when the clay content is more than 35%. The main plant productivity limiting factor in the fine textured soil is the insufficient quantity of drainage aeration pores.
