Responce of cotton grown in Central Greece to different levels of mineral fertilization

The experiment included 6 variants with increased rates complex fertilizer - 20:10:0 applied before sowing: 1) control, 2) 400 kg/ha, 3) 800 kg/ha, 4) 1200 kg/ha, 5) 1600 kg/ha, 6) 1200 kg/ha. Different fertilizer rates did not influence on content of NH4+-N in soil after harvesting of the yield. Considerable amounts of NO3-N left in soil - especially to higher fertilizer rates (1200-1600 kg/ha) - from 53 to 63 mg/1000g respectively. The highest yield of cotton (about 3200 kg/ha) was obtained at fertilizer rate 1200 kg/ha 20:10:0 fertilizer - respectively 240 kg N/ha and 160 kg P2O5/ha. The separet application of nitrogen (160kg N/ha before sowing and 80 kg N/ha mid of June) was more effective practice.
