'Juurlu' - creeping-rooted lucerne variety for pasture bred at Jogeva

Breeding of grazing type creeping-rooted lucerne variety was carried out at the Jogeva Plant Breeding Institute from 1971...1998. As a result of this work yellow-flowered hybrid lucerne (medicago media Pers.) variety 'Juurlu' was developed in which population the share of creeping-rooted plants was 55 per cent in the spring of third cultivation year. The variety has been bred by selections and polycross of the best clones of the initial material, originating from the natural habitat in Valinava, Lithuania. Variety 'Juurlu' has been overcome by control variety 'Jogeva 118' in yield capacity when cutting regime was applied but exceeded the latter in grazing tolerance and productive longevity in the grazing conditions
