The trial indicated that our traditional feed ration in which the basal feeds are field hay, silage and forage root crops, can be successfully replaced by high quality clover silage. Graminaceous silage that was of a high intake as well, but the nutritive value of which was lower, did not totally substitute the ration consisting of hay, silage and forage root crops. Higher milk production, when feeding big bale silage, was achieved not due to silage preparing technology, but because of better silage material. In the trial the intake of clover silage was 16.51 kg dry matter and that of graminaceous silage was 16.25 kg. Although only two silages of different technologies and materials were compared, it can be concluded that in the case of mixed rations the results may be incorrect if only NDF content of a feed is considered. The trial showed that relationship between ADF content and dry matter intake was closer
