Function of mangrove forest green belt on stabilizing pollution in coastal ecosystem

Mangrove forest as regard to its important role and function, in relation to the energy and nutrient cycles, the physical and chemical function as well as to its specific biological diversity to pollution and land use change, has to be taken into consideration mainly in the management and conservation of its unique ecotone. One among the ways is to study the ecosystem in a more intensive and extensive approach. The objective to his study is to investigate the accumulation of heavy metals of particular Cu, Mn and Zn in mangrove trees following to their morphological component, and also to know how far the role and function of mangrove as green belt in regulating the pollution due to biological activities and heavy metal accumulation. The study shows that Mn is highly accumulated in the mangrove trees followed by Cu and Zn, while in the water the highest content is Zn followed by Cu and Mn. As regard to the biological component, leaves content the highest heavy metal compared to the stem and roots. In general, there is a significant correlation between location of sample plots and source of pollution where the concentration of heavy metal is increasing from coastal to the dry land, this means that the function of mangrove green belt as regulator of pollution is indeed effective.
