[Capital as the limiting factor for agribusiness in rural areas]

The present state of agribusiness in Latvia and the problems depending on the availability of the necessary capital as well as the possibilities to acquire it are discussed. The role of subsidies in promoting the agribusiness activity is emphasized. The activity of the following agricultural organization is discussed: the projects financed by PHARE, the Rural Innovation Centre founded in 1992, the Latvia Agricultural Advisory Service, the Regional Development Foundation, the Norwegian-Latvian Entrepreneurship Development Foundation. The results of the present research show that the main problems of agribusiness in Latvia are: insufficient funds to be invested in agribusiness, incomplete use of funds and lack of professional business skills.
