Catalytic activity of humic substances in degradation and transformation of xenobiotics: hydrolysis reactions of p-nitrophenyl acetate
1999
Klavins, M. | Serzane, J. | Babre, K. (University of Latvia, Riga (Latvia))
Humic substances from water, soil and peat exhibit considerable catalytic activity in p-nitrophenyl ester hydrolysis reaction. The rate of hydrolysis depends on the nature and concentration of humic substance, ionic strength and temperature. Aquatic fulvic acids have the highest catalytic activity, but the reaction mechanism possibly involves micellar catalysis.
