Twenty six irrigated maize plots were conducted in seven states of Mexico's South-Southeastern region in the fall-winter season 1996-97, where potentially one million hectares of corn may be grown. Agronomic production practices were those recommended by INIFAP; water management had to take limitations now prevailing in the region, such as lack of land leveling and poorly maintained irrigation equipment. Four maize technological formulas (MTF) were tested. H-INIFAP or hybrids of INIFAP; OPV-INIFAP or open pollinated varieties of INIFAP; H-SC or hybrids of seed companies; and MTF-Global (combination of three MTF). H-INIFAP consisted of H-512 and H-513 for states along the Golf of Mexico, V-528 and V-532 for the Yucatan peninsula and VS-535 for states bordering the Pacific Ocean; H-SC were 21 of the hybrids most frequently used by farmers from Ceres, Pioneer, Dekalb, Cargill and Asgrow seed companies. The MTF-Global totaled 186 accessions in 26 locations with amean of 5.36 ton/ha; H-INIFAP comprised 36 accesions in the same 26 sites with a mean of 6.41; OPV-INIFAP had 4.87 as the mean of 43 accessions, H-SC had 107 accession with a mean of 5.20 ton/ha. Relative frequency of yield (RFY) equal or largen than 6 ton/ha was 33% for MTF-Global; 65% for H-INIFAP; 23% for OPV-INIFAP; and 28% for H-SC. RFY equal or smaller than 4 ton/ha was 21% for MTF-Global, 3% for H-INIFAP; 28% for H-SC; and 15% for OPV-INIFAP. Se condujo 26 parcelas de maiz bajo riego en 7 estados del Sur-Sureste del pais, en el ciclo Otono-Invierno 1996-97, donde es posible sembrar un millon de hectareas como un segundo cultivo. Se cotejo si existian diferencias entre 4 formulas tecnologicas de maiz (FTM): hibridos recomendados del INIFAP (H-INIFAP), variedades de polinizacion libre del INIFAP (VPL-INIFAP) e hibridos de las empresas comercializadoras de semillas (H-ECS). El manejo agronomico de las parcelas se apoyo en la tecnologia del INIFAP; elmanejo del agua de riego estuvo sujeto a las limitaciones actuales de la region: las tierras no estan niveladas y carecen de trazo de riego; hay insuficiecias en energia electrica rural y/o deficiencias en las bombas. La FTM H-INIFAP incluyo a los hibridos H-512 y H-513 en los estados riberenos del golfo de Mexico y el H-515 en la costa del Pacifico; VPL-INIFAP consistio en VS-536 para la costa del Golfo, VS-535 para la costa del Pacifico y V-528 y V-532 en la Peninsula de Yucatan; H ECS involucro a los 21 hibridos mas vendidos por las empresas Ceres, Pioneer, Dekalb, Cargill y Asgrow.
