This study was conducted to determine: a) the disease carry-over of Rhizoctonia solani from rice and weeds to onions; and b.) the cellular fatty acids composition of both isolates by gas chromatography procedures. R. solani from rice and weeds inoculated to onions caused seedlings rot or root rot. Both of these isolates grew rapidly and produced large spherical sclerotial bodies on potato dextrose agar. These multinucleate isolates had in common eight fatty acids such as myristic (14:0), pentadecanoic (15:0), palmitic (16:0), 7-palmitic [16:1 cis 7), heptadecanoic [17:0), 9-heptadecanoic (17:1 cis 9), oleic (18:1 cis 9) and steric (18:0). Fatty acid present in great amounts were palmitic and oleic. These preliminary results suggest that R. solani from rice and weeds are similar and onion is also another host plant
