In this paper are presented the results of data concerning body weight, morphological measurements, sex, age and other observations obtained from 400 hares hunted mostly in Evora region during the last three hunting seasons (1992-1995). Age and sex were determined and females classified in pregnant, lactating and neither pregnant nor lactating. Males were classified in sexually active or non-active by the presentation or non-presentation of external testes. The individuals considered adults permited, trough a summary statistical analysis, a first approach to the morphological characterisation of the hare of Southern Portugal. The absolute frequency of eye lens weight is presented, every month during the therr hunting periods. The relative number of males and females sexualy actives shows significant evolution along the hunting season. However this study does not allow valid conclusions about the reproduction of the hare in Southern Portugal and must be completed with more observations not only during the next hunting seasons but also during the period between them, using the capture-recapture technique
