Interrelation between properties of the soil and plant species composition of saline soil

The soil samples were taken from the areas overgrown with Puccinella distans (Jacq.) Parl., Salicornia herbacea L., Agropyron repens (L.) P.B. and the ones with no plants growing in. The determinations of cation content Ca, Mg, K, Na, electric conductivity and pH were made. The soil with no plants on, truned out to have the highest salinity and was most abundant in the cations determined, the species showing the best endurance for salinity turned out to be Salicornia herbaceas L. Both because of the small area of the soils impregnated by the salts and the doubtful affects of possible recultivation the area should be turned into a natural preserve
