Effect of budding dates and types of rootstock on bud establishment and growth of one-year old apple trees of two cultivars

It was found that the result of budding depended on the budding date and weather conditions. Budding on August 25 being too late. Low temperatures at the time of budding affected the bud establisment and reduced a number of trees. The development of shoots from buds in spring, percentage of 1st sort trees, percentage of undergrown trees, height and diameter of trees and total length of their shoots depended upon the rootstocks. The degree of tissue connection and the cambium connection between the bud and the rootstock before winter caused bud damages in winter
