Even if the low tolerance of the fruit to the presence of small quantities of exchangeable sodium within the soil is well know, the sodium toxicity process itself involved in soil plant relationship is yet little understood. The paper presents same results of the investigation carried out in some orchards on the sandy soils from Danube Lowland, slightly affected by the process of alkalization. In these conditions, an accumulation of sodium in the root of the fruit trees, mainly in the active root (up to 1mm) was found. The sodium accumulation goes in the direct relation with the exchange sodium per cent values increase. Also, the mineral composition of the fruit trees leaves shows significant levels of sodium content in the plants affected by sodium toxicity
