Present and perspective of milk production in the Slovak Republic

Until 1989 the Slovak Republic belonged among states with a high consumption of milk (253.2 kg/person/year). Presently consumption is less that 170/kg/person/year. After 1989, the herds of dairy cows and the production of milk decreased, but at the same time qualitative changes are apparent. More than 40% of raw milk is in the Q qualitative class, more than 30% in the I qualitative class and the rest is in the II or III qualitative classes. In 1997, the production of milk in our country was about 1850 l less than the milk production in (E.U. - 15). The decrease in milk production means that the raw material of the milk industry costs more. In order to increase the milk production it is necessary to feed the dairy cows properly, and most milk producers have a good basis for how to do this
