Treatment of jeans bleaching factory wastewater for removal of colour, COD and manganese by ferrous sulphate, ferric sulphate in conjunction with polymer coagulant aids
1992
Pongsak Nuphan
Wastewater from a jeans bleaching factory in Bangkok was found to have high colour density and turbidity with COD and BOD ranges of 300 to 700 mg/l and 200 to 300 mg/l respectively. In this research the treatment method employing chemical coagulation was carried out using synthetic wastewater which has some characteristics namely colour, COD and manganese content close to the raw jeans bleaching wastewater. The results show that when ferrous sulphate was used in the treatment, the colour, COD and manganese content of raw wastewater are decreased by 95.5 percent, 42.5 percent and 98.5 percent respectively, while using ferric sulphate in the same manner the colour, COD and manganese content are decreased by 94 percent, 46.5 percent and 17.0 percent respectively. With use of polymer coagulant aids coagulation is much more improved.
