Effect of planting date and spacing on seed yield and seed quality of sweet basil (Ocimum basilicum L.)
1996
Supat Charoenrat
Sweet basil was grown in December, January and February, 1994/1995 with the spacing of 30*50, 40*50 and 50*50 cm at Kasetsart University, Kampangsaen Campus. Planting dates had an effect on plant width, height, number of primary branches, days to flowering, seed yield and seed quality. The widest bush, early flowering and maximum number of primary branches, highest seed yield and seed germination were obtained from plant grown in December. Spacing had no effect on vegetative growth and seed quality except seed yield when grown in December with spacing 30*50 cm produced the highest seed yield (288.70 kg/rai with 8 harvests). However, to minimize the cost of production, only 3 harvests should be enough for commercial seed production.
