The hazelnut culture was started in Anatolia about 2500 years ago. The origin of hazelnut is Anatolia, and its growing has been practicing for many years. Therefore, a number of hazelnut varieties is existed. There are 11 cultivars in Tombul group, 4 cultivars in Sivri group and 2 cultivars in Badem group in Turkiye. The most important cultivar is Tombul (Yagli)
