The importance and role of the veterinary services of Serbia [Yugoslavia] in applying modern methods of animal reproduction and artificial insemination
1998
Miljkovic, V.S. (Fakultet veterinarske medicine, Beograd (Yugoslavia))
Artificial insemination of cows and other domestic animals, as a part of the primary animal production, was assigned to the veterinary services and covered by the appropriate regulations of the Republic of Serbia (Yugoslavia): Five animals husbandry veterinary centers work actively in producing and distributing bull semen. Veterinary services and ambulance stations (both state owned and private) apply modern methods in animal reproduction (artificial insemination, sterility treatment and elimination, fertility control and improvement). The same activities are carried out by veterinarians on cows, pigs and sheep farms, as well as on thoroughbred horse fams. According to our needs and to the capabilities of animal husbandry veterinarian centres (with 200 throughbred bulls) veterinary and ambulance stations, the number and percentage of inseminated cows should be immediately doubled. This should be the program and goal for our veterinarian and cattle producers, shortly after this, 7th Congress.
