In order to study the mode of inheritance, gene effects, components of genetic variance and combining ability for petiole angle, petiole length, number of leaves, total leaf area per plant, plant height and head diameter in F1 and F2 generation of six divergent sunflower inbred lines, analysis of diallel crosses for combining ability (Griffing, 1956) method 2 model 1 was applied. Genetic variance and regression analysis was done according to Mather and Jinks' method (1982). Petiole angle, petiole length, number of leaves, height of plant head are conditioned by additive and nonadditive gene actions and by predominance of the additive components, which is proved by the ratio of GCA/SCA, component of genetic variance and regression analysis. Analysis of variance for combining ability showed at highly significant differences for GCA and SCA, but dominant gene action played a significant role in the inheritance total leaf area per plant and head diameter related to additive acting, which is an agreement with the analysis of genetic components of variance and regression analysis. On the basis of GCA and SCA for all analysed characters, it can be concluded that the best general combiner was the line NS-BD, but the worst was NS-NDF.
