The subject on the present study was the investigation of antimicrobial activity of some cyclic imide derivates obtained by the Reformatsky reaction. Microbial investigation were carried out by means of the antibiogram method based on diffusion into agar plate. As test microorganisms bacteria Escherichia coli ATCC 25922, Micrococcus luteus ATCC 4692, Bacillus subtilis IP 5832 and Staphylococcus aureus ATCC 25923 were used. It was established that most of the investigated compounds exhibited antimicribial activity against Escherichia coli. That was to be expected in view of the results of earlier studies of similar compounds. An exception was the phthalimide derivative containing R1=R2=H and which displays no antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli. Antimicrobial activity of cyclic imides against other bacterias is very different. More detailed conclusions on the dependance of antimicrobial activity on the structure of synthetised compounds could be drawn after further examinations of related compounds.
