International marketing in the function of agricultural development of the hill and mountain regions in Yugoslavia with reference to raspberry export

The analysis of Yugoslav (SFRY and FRY) raspberry export shows some common characteristics which need to be taken into consideration when determining the strategy of future export of this competitive product on the world market. Demand for raspberry export keeps shifting from export of fresh raspberries towards export of processed or semi-processed raspberries. Raspberry production in hill and mountain regions of Yugoslavia must therefore be channeled accordingly. Raspberry prices on the international market are relatively stable at the level of approximately US dollar 1 for one kg of processed and about US dollar 0.60 for a kg of fresh raspberries. The biggest world importers of raspberries, including those exported from Yugoslavia, are members of the European Union. Yugoslavia must undertake major structural changes in its economy and in particular in economic relations with other countries. Raspberry growing, with recognition of specific features of the technological process and optimum choice of location, with the contribution of creative marketing, is an example showing how traditional production in the hill and mountain regions may adjust to the contemporary market and economic conditions in international economy relying on available economic resources and comparative advantages of hill and mountain regions in Serbia (Yugoslavia).
