Influence of nitrates on the growth of Tilapia and possibilities for reducing their detrimental effect

A study for establishing the effect of nitrtes on the growth, and nitrate and nitrite consentration in the meat of Tilapia fish was carried out in glass tanks.One ml of total extract (0.5%) from artishoke plant was added per litre of water of tanks.Nitrates in the water increased nitrate and nitrite content in the meat and depressed fish growth ability.Supplementation with extract from artishoke plant reduced nitrates and nitrites consentration in the fish meat.
