Investigations of a metaphyton of the River Svisloch (1977) and the Batorino Lake (1999) are perfomed. Metaphyton represented an algal-bacterial mat with an insignificant part of invertebrates and detritus. two filamentous blue-greens Oscillatoria limosa and O.curviceps were dominant species. Diatoms were the second most abundant algae in metaphyton. Species diversity of diatoms was more higer than blue-green algae. Ash content in metaphyton constituted 75,2+-2,6 % of dry mass(n=21; +-SD). The average concentration of chlorofill a was 2,78+-0,99 % of dry matter and 11,21+-3,48 % of organic matter (n=22; +-SD). Average specific rates of destruction and potential photosynthesis composed 0,019 and 0,053 mg O2 per 1 mg of dry matter per day respectively. It indicates on high metabolic activity of metaphyton
