The objective of this article review is to outline and evaluate experimental methods which can be used for the determination of the digestible amino acid content of poultry diets (diet components and complete diets) may be determined. The methods based on the collection of excreta (dropping digestibility), the removal of the caecum (caecectumy) and cannulation techniques (enabling collection of faeces and digesta). On the basis of the most recent research results published, the authors draw the following conclusions: 1. Evaluation of dietary proteins is more precise if expressed in terms of digestible amino acid content rather than total amino acid content. 2. Amino acid requirements for broilers reared for high performance can be met with greater precision when digestible amino acid content is also used in calculations.
