Microbial enzymes as feed additives in poultry nutrition
2000
Simon, O.
More than forty enzyme preparations are approved in the European Union as feed additives. All enzymes in these preparations are of microbial origin and they are applied predominantly in rations for young poultry and pigs. Two classes of enzymes are used for this purpose, i.e. the non-starch polysaccharide (NSP) hydrolyzing enzymes (cellulases 1,3-1,4-ß-glucanases, xylanases) and the phytases. The use of NSP-hydrolyzing enzymes is focused on broiler feeding. The effectiveness of these enzymes in terms of performance parameters in cereal based feed for broilers is well documented, however the magnitude of response varies subject to the characteristics included in the diet.
