A research has been conducted at the Faculty of Agriculture Research Station, University of Syiah Kuala Banda Aceh, since August 1997 until December 1997. This research aimed to examine the effect of dosages and application time of water hyacinth on weed growth, nodulation, growth and yield of soybean. A factorial Randomized Completely Block Design (RCBD) with three replications was used in this research. The dosages water hyacinth were: 0; 8; 16, and 24 ton/ha. The application time were: 7 days before planting (DBP), planting time, and 7 days after planting (DAP). The result showed, that the water hyacinth mulch dosages affects to weed control efficiency at 21 and 42 DAP, effective nodule weight, leaf area index at 21 and 42 DAP, number pod per plant, number seed per plant, and dry seed yield. The application time influence to the weed control efficiency at 21 and 42 DAP, nodule weight effective, leaf area index at 42 DAP. The dosages and time application of water hyacinth result in an interaction effect on nodule weight effective. The higher of the water hyacinth dosages given, the higher weed control efficiency at 21 and 42 DAP, nodule weight effective, leaf area index at 21 and 42 DAP, number pod per plant, number seed per plant, and dry seed yield. The water hyacinth application at the 7 DBP increases weed control efficiency at 21 and 42 DAP and leaf area index at 42 DAP. The 24 ton/ha of water hyacinth mulch given at planting time, could increase nodule weight effective
