Changes in soil labile zinc of industrial waste origin in several tropical soils treated with lime and cassava-leaf compost

Changes in soil labile Zn of industrial waste origin were evaluated in tropical soils treated with lime and/or cassava-leaf compost. Soil samples from Banjaragung and Gedongmeneng (Lampung) and Cihea (Cianjur, West Java) were used as models. Soil samples were incubated for 4 weeks at 40 percent (V/W) moisture content and room temperature after treatments with metal-spoon industrial waste at 0-40 ton/ha and/or lime at 0 or 5 ton/ha and/or cassava-leaf compost at 0 or 5 ton/ha. Unlike the soluble Zn, the exchangeable Zn and water-Zn of industrial waste origin decreased with lime treatment and was not greatly affected by cassava-leaf compost treatments. In average, addition of lime at 5 ton ha/1 decreased soil exchangeable Zn and water-Zn by 87.2 percent and 57.3 percent respectively
