Effects of inoculation of Vesicular Arbuscular Mycorrhiza (VAM), Phosphate Solubilising Bacteria (PSB), and P fertilizer application on growth and yield of mungbean (Vigna radiata (L.) Wilczek) on Inseptisols

Two pot experiments and one field experiment were carried out at the experimental station of Faculty of Agriculture Padjadjaran University, from May 1995 up to May 1996. A randomized block design was used in both pot experiments. In pot experiment I, two factors, namely VAM (0, 5, 10, 15 ton/ha) and P fertilizer (0, 10, 20, 30, kg/ha), whereas in pot experiment II, two factors, namely PSB (without PSB, PSB 1, PSB 2, and PSB 1 + PSB 2) and P (0, 10, 20, 30, kg/ha), were studied in field experiment, split plot design was used to study PSB (with and without PSB) as main plot factor and VAM (0, 5, 10, 15, and 20 ton/ha) as subplot factor. In all experiments, each treatment was replicated three times. Result showed that the optimum rate of P fertilizer in experiment I and experiment II were 0,28 g/plant and 0,34 g/plant of TSP, respectively. In field experiment, no different pattern of growth was observed expressed in Crop Growth Rate (CGR), Net Assimilation Rate (NAR), and Leaf Area Index (LAI) either with or without PSB. No interaction effect between VAM and PSB upon P status was also observed. P was increased by inoculation with PSB. The highest yield of 608,23 g/plot was obtained by inoculation of 4147,2 g/plot of VAM and inoculation of PSB (P. diminuta)
