The first liming experiments were done in the Varena experimental station in 1937-1938, later long term experiments were conducted in Perloja research station of the LIA. Long term research results are sumariezed in this article. The efficiency of liming of sod-podzolic very acid and lightly acid soils of light was evaluated. Experimental findings suggest that liming efficiently decreased soil acidity and increased the productivity of almost all the crops as well as that of the rotation. Limes is efective over 10 years. Normalisation of soil reaction is one of most important task on sandy and sandy loam soils in Southeast of Lithuania
