[The influence of the crown type in the first years of new apple orchard]
2000
Lepsis, J. (State Pure Horticultular Research Station, Pure, Tukuma reg. (Latvia))
The influence of different crown types and planting system on the growth and yielding of apple-trees in the first years of growing was studied in the trial at the State Pure Horticulture Research Station in 1996. The cultivar "Belorusskaya Malinovaya", rootstocks H9 and Pure 1 were used in the trials. In the first three years the crown type and the planting systems had little influence on the vegetative growth of trees. In a new orchard with fast yielding cultivars on dwarf rootstocks the crown type had insignificant influence on the formation of inflorescence and yield per tree. In the first yielding years the yield per orchard area depended mainly on the planting system, the crown type had little influence on the yield quality.
