The influence of soil tillage-sowing technologies on the yields of winter wheat, spring barley, and factors, influencing crop grain yield, were clarified in the research on sod podzolic loam soils in the Research Farm "Vecauce", LUA in 1998 to 1999. Conventional early ploughing, late ploughing with the soil pacomat and late ploughing without pacomat were used as comparison variants of soil tillage for winter wheat. The efficiency of direct sowing was tested concurrently. Spring barley sowing was performed in the conventional autumn ploughing, spring ploughing with and wihout pacomat as well as direct sowing in the stubble. It was ascertained in the research that the increase of grain crop yields was achieved by using pacomat and by local use of mineral fertilisers at seeding. Direct sowing and conservation tillage lowered production costs and the same level of crop yield was achieved compared to classical soil tillage-sowing systems.
