The soil fertility of agricultural land in the area of 256 400 ha (10% of total agricultural land areas) in 8900 farms has been investigated during 1992-1999. 118 100 soil samples were taken for determination of pH, organic matter, phosphorus, potassium and magnesium contents. Results of soil analyses indicate a great diversity in soil agrochemical parameters in various districts, farms and fields. Acid soils that require liming cover 39% of investigated area. Low levels of phosphorus, potassium and magnesium are observed respectively in 36.22 and 15% of investigated agricultural land. The results show that lack of fertilizers and liming are the main cause for soil degradation.
