Protein polymorphism gene frequencies in Lithuanian Heavy Draught horse breed

The development history of Lithuanian Heavy Draught horse breed is reviewed. The exterior, the body conformation, parts of the body and the colour of horses are described. Gene frequencies at 3 protein polymorphism loci (Al, Tf, Es) are given. Protein polymorphism has been examined by PAGE gel electrophoresis. The resulting data are presented. The protein polymorphism analysis indicated the most typical phenotype of the Heavy Draught breed. The study has shown that the Heavy Draught breed horses are genetically most similar to the Ardennes, Zemaitukai breed and the Fjording breed most distant from the Heavy Draught.
