Land vertebrates of Calauit Island, Palawan, Philippines

A total of 236 species of land vertebrates have been recorded on Calauit Island, Palawan, Philippines. This consists of 6 species of amphibians, 28 species of reptiles, 170 species of birds, and 32 species of mammals. The previous record of 78 species by Agaloos and Nepomuceno in 1977, consisted of 1 species of amphibian, 6 species of reptiles, 60 species of birds, and 11 species of mammals. The present inventory has added 158 new records of 5 amphibians, 22 reptiles, 110 birds and 21 mammals. The present record also included 12 species of endangered wildlife, namely: Philippine Woodland Frog (Rana magna acanthi), Hawksbill Turtle (Eretmochelys imbricata), Green Sea Turtle (Chelonia mydas), Philippine Serpent Eagle (Spilornis cheela), Palawan Horn bill (Anthracoceros marchei), Palawan Peacock Pheasant (Polyplectron emphanum), Blue-naped Parrot (Tanygnathus lucionensis), Red-vented Cockatoo (Cacatua haematuropygia), Pangolin (Manis javanica culionensis), Palawan Tree-Shrew (Tupaia glis palawanensis), Mousedeer (Tragulus napu nigricans), and Calamian Deer (Cervus calamianensis)
