Reproductive performance of five genetic groups of Philippine native chickens under semi-confinement conditions

The reproductive performance of five genetic groups of Philippine native chickens was evaluated. The five genetic groups considered and the areas where they were obtained are as follows: Banaba from Batangas, Bolinao from Pangasinan, Camarines From Sorsogon, Cebu from Cebu and Paraoakan from Palawan [Philippines]. The experiment was laid out following a completely randomized design with unequal replications. The laying native chickens were evaluated from 18 weeks old up to 52 weeks of age under semi-confinement housing condition. Identical management practices were provided to the layers with an average sex ratio of 1 male:5 females. The Paraoakan group laid egg the earliest (119 d) while the Bolinao group laid the latest (184 d). Egg weight at sexual maturity was lightest in the Camarines (27.78 g) group and heaviest in the Banaba group (32.31 g). Percent hen-day production was highest in the Cebu group and lowest in the Paraoakan. Fertility was highest in the Banaba group (86.60 percent) and lowest in the Cebu group (51.43 percent)
