Influence of tillage and legume intercrops on the productivity of popcorn (Zea mays)
1999
Florentino, N.N.
Popcorn growth and yield performance were not affected by tillage systems. Intercropping significantly influenced the maturity dates, herbage yield and shelling recovery of popcorn. Popcorn's maturity and herbage production were enhanced in peanut (L5) and soybean (L6) intercropping schemes. Parameters such as herbage yield (peanut and soybean); grain yield (peanut); leaf area index [LAI] and number of filled pods per plant (soybean) were significantly affected by the tillage system. Characters such as maturity dates and LAI of mungbean, herbage yield and weed weight of soybean were significantly influenced by the combined effects of tillage and intercropping scheme. Intercropping popcorn with different field legume under any tillage practices was more profitable. Highest net return (P95,583.13/ha) was obtained in popcorn + peanut intercropping combination under the zero-tillage management
