Population of bull-calf mothers in Poland in 1994-96

Bull-calf mothers n = 1976 coming from the entire Poland in 1994-96 were analysed. It was foud that 93.4 percent of total bull-calf mothers were the animals of HF breed blood share, the rest (6.6 percent) - pure BW cows. Bull-calf mothers came in most cases from farms possessed by various companies (62.3 percent) and state ones (17.2 percent). The greatest number of qualified bull-calf mothers was from northern and western part of Poland. The fact that demands on bull-calf mothers in eastern and southern part of Poland were fulfilled only by 10 percent cows was unfavourable feature. Similarly, in some regions no cow was qualified as bull-calf mother. It was found that - in the most active group of bull-calf mothers - stabilisation referring to genotype representing unilaterally dairy performance type occurred
