Worthwhileness of apple production under the Warmia [Poland] conditions

In a commercial apple orchard of the Experiment Station, an investigation of the profitability of ten apple cultivars grown on area of 25 ha was made. In the years 1995-97 there were harvested from 9.7 to 13 tons of apples from ha. To calculate the costs in particular years, the data were taken from financial books. In order to determine profits, the following items were calculated: value of final production, profitability index, profit per one hectare of orchard and per produce unit. The mean sales price was calculated as a quotient of the value of production and crop. The index of profitability was calculated on the basis of percentage quotient of the value of final production and total costs. Profit was obtained by substracting total cost from final production
