монгольский. Effect of tillage techniques on soil compaction, density and moisture content (m.c.) within roots' zone was tested in a field experiment with spring wheat. Direct sowing and simplified tillage system (grubber) were compared with conventional cultivation. At direct sowing soil m.c. to 40 cm depth was higher in periods of precipitation deficit in 1998. In 1999 high ground water level determined soil m.c. in arable layer. At low m.c. simplified tillage did not affect soil density to 30 cm deep, while its compaction increased at the end of vegetation. At zero-tillage in 1999 the content of organic matter became higher with lower soil density. Low soil m.c. in 1998 conditioned its higher compaction in objects with simplified cultivation
