Global productivity of agricultural crops

Английский. The area of arable land in the world is one tenth of the total global land area. In this paper FAO agricultural production statistics for the year 1991 are used to derive Net Primary Productivity (NPP) of arable land, by using fixed crop-specific coefficients (dry matter content, harvest index, root production, carbon- and nitrogen content). Total NPP of agricultural crops is estimated at 3.5 Pg C per year, i.e. 7% of total NPP of all terrestrial ecosystems. Small and coarse grains together account for 60% of agricultural NPP, while oil crops and sugar crops each account for 9%. From the 3.5 Pg C, 35% (1,2 Pg) is available as harvested product, of which 0,6 Pg is used for human consumption and 0,5 Pg for animal consumption; the remainer is used, among others, for alcohol production. The time trend of total NPP on arable land for the period 1960-1995 shows a linear increase at a rate of about 63 Tg C per year. The relative rate of increase in global agricultural productivity has fallen from 3.5% per year in 1960 to about 1.7% per year at present. Neste artigo as estatisticas de producao agricola da FAO para o ano 1991 sao utilizadas para calcular a Produtividade Primaria Liquida (NPP) da terra aravel, utilizando coeficientes especificos das culturas fixos (conteudo de materia seca, indice de colheita, producao de raizes, e conteudos de carbono e azoto). A NPP total das culturas agricolas e estimada em 3,5 Pg C por ano, i.e. 7% da NPP total dos ecossistemas terrestres. A producao de graos abrange 60% da NPP agricola, enquanto que as culturas oleaginosas e acucareiras contribuem com 9% cada. Dos 3,5 Pg C, 35% (1,2 Pg) esta disponivel como produto colhido, dos quais 0,6 Pg sao utilizados para o consumo humano e 0,5 Pg para o consumo animal; o restante e utilizado, entre outros, para a producao de alcool. A tendencia temporal da NPP total da area aravel para o periodo 1960-1995 evidencia um aumento linear a taxa de cerca de 63 Tg C por ano. A taxa relativa de aumento da produtividade agricola global caiu de 3,5% por ano em 1960 ate cerca de 1,7% por ano no presente.
