Climate conditions prevailing in Transilvania, as a result of a succession of unfavourable thermal or hydric factors during sowing - emergence or seed formation, favourize grain infection with pathogens particularly harmlul, belonging to genera: Fusarium, Tilletia, Helminthosporium and Ustilago.Seed treatment of cereals remains the most efficient way to prevent and control diseases caused by seminal and teluric pathogens. This treatment is not only necessary, but it should become compulsory. Very good efficacy in controlling the dominant pathogens occurring on wheat and barley seeds was shown by the products: Vitavax 200 FF (3.0 kg/t), Vincit F (1,0 kg/t), Sumi 8 Plus (2,0 kg/t), Penoctine total (2,0 1/t) Raxil 060 (0,5 1/t), Dividend 030 (1,0 1/t), Sumi 8 Gold (2,0 kg/t), Premis U (1,5 1/t), Gammavit 85 (3,0 kg/t) and others. Calculation of economic efficiency of seed treatment showed profits of some 2,5 million lei/ha when controlling the common bunt, Tilletia spp. while the seed treatment merely represented 2-4percent of profit value.
