Studies on early warning and forecasting systems of stem borer (Sesamia nonagrioides Lef.) and European corn borer (Ostrinia nubilalis Hbn.) in Mediterranean region

Studies were carried out on early warning and forecasting systems of stem borer (Sesamia nonagrioides Lef.) and European corn borer (Ostrinia nubilalis Hbn.) in Adana and Icel provinces in 1991-1994. According to the results robinson light traps were choosen as a suitable trap type for the region. In common sowing date in first crop maize have no need any control measuresfor these pests. In second crop maize, the critical dates were determined between 9 th of July to 13 th of August. During this period approximately 7.54 adults for stem borer and approximately 14.60 adults for European corn borer, and sum of effective temperatures were 1243.28 and 1823.07 day-degree respectively
