The lead contents were in the range of 0.00-4.70 ppm with an average of 2.10+1.34 ppm. Forty samples of fresh beef showed higher lead content than the standard, 1 ppm. The lead content in 110 samples of canned beef products collected from 3 pilot plants were in the range of 0.00-11.03 ppm with an average of 3.31+3.11 ppm and 73 samples of canned beef product showed higher lead content than standard 1 ppm.
