Inheritance of number of heads per plant in ornamental sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.)

The inheritance discussed in this paper included diallel crossings, without reciprocals, of five inbred lines of ornamental sunflower, which were analysed for mode of inheritance, combining ability and components of genetic variability for number of heads per plant in F1 and F2 generations. Significant differences between the parental mean values were found. Number of heads per plant in F1 and F2 generations was inherited intermediary, partially dominant, dominant or superdominat, depending on the combination. The results of combining ability showed that in the inheritance of the number of heads, genes with additive and nonadditive effects were included.
