The objective of this investigation was to examine the efficiency of symbiotic association of bean genotypes and highly efficient strains of Rhizobium leguminosarum bv. phaseoli, in field conditions. Five bean genotypes (line NS-P-2 and varieties Zlatko, Slavonski zutozeleni, Spinel and Belko) were planted in late May 1998. At the stage of flowering, in late June, five plants were taken from each genotype and replication for determinations of length, dry matter mass and nitrogen content in entire plant and the number of nodules formed on roots. Nitrogen was determined by Kjeldahl's method. On average for the genotypes under study, inoculation positively affected plant length, nitrogen content and the number of nodules. The obtained one-year results showed that, in experimental location, the varieties Zlatko and Spinel established more efficient symbiotic associations than the variety Belko and the line NS-P-2, i.e., that the efficiency of symbiotic association depends on plant genotype.
