Evaluation of different types of rhizomania resistance in sugar beet hybrids

In the paper was evaluated rhizomania resistance of 14 sugar beet hybrids. Hybrids were sown in concrete basins fraught with soil highly infected with rhizomania, and with uninfected soil. Concentration of viruses was assessed by DAS-ELISA test. Following traits of hybrids were measured: root yield (t/ha), sugar content (%), recoverable sugar content (%) and crystal sugar yield (t/ha). Differences for measured traits between basins were very significant for all traits. In basin with infected soil the highest root yield (33.72 t/ha), recoverable sugar content (11.03%) and crystal sugar yield (3.72 t/ha) had hybrid NS Hy 8R, while hybrid Formula had the highest sugar content (14.65%). On uninfected soil hybrid NS Hy 8 R also had the highest root yield (53.85 t/ha), recoverable sugar content (12.12%) and crystal sugar yield (6.53 t/ha), but hybrid NS 0400 x P 974R had the highest sugar content.
