Ferrocenylmethyl carbonium ion as proteases inhibitor
1999
Kukric, Z. (Tehnoloski fakultet, Banja Luka (Bosnia and Herzegovina))
An alternative approach to the development of clinically useful protease inhibitors was investigated. The approach utilized ferrocenylmethyl carbonium ion rather than substrate analogs to block active sites of these enzymes. This study demonstrates the ability of ferrocenylmethyl carbonium ion's binding as a way to enhance blocking of enzyme active sites as compared with that of traditional organic inhibitors. Application of these findings was investigated by measuring the affect ferrocenylmethyl carbonium ion had on growth of Escherichia coli and it was showed that this ion completely inhibited the growth of Escherichia coli. This suggest that this sandwich compound of the iron (II), maybe, may be useful in controlling endemic infection of Escherichia coli.
