Effect of drought on the reproductive responses of some plum varieties

The purpose of the present work has been to trace the response shown by some of the wider spread varieties toward the extreme doughting during the vegetation period of 2000.As a result of observation of the varieties included in the study, i.e. Stanley, Strinava, Kyustendilska and Gabrovska, the latter one has found to be most susceptible toward drought conditions.The prolonged droughting has affected first of all the reproductive behaviour of the plum trees.Considerably lowered are the size and the weight of fruits and respectively so the yield.Increased are dry matter and sugars, while acids as well as tanning and colouring matters are lowered.A decrease is also found in the content of chlorophyll in the leves.Water defficincy due to which there exists a risk of freezing and of lowered yield during the next year.
