In 1998-1999 the authors investigated the recent status of the stability of the fish community distributed in the lower course of the Svitava river between the river kilometers 0.6 and 8.5. In October 1998, July and November 1999 three times repeated ichthyological research applying electrofishing was carried out in 4 localities. Ichthyological research resulted in findings of 20 fish species from 6 families (Salmonidae, Thymallidae, Cyprinidae, Balitoridae, Anguillidae, Percidae). The average fish abundance was found of 528.0-2,734.7 fish/ha. The most frequent were the following species: Leuciscus cephalus, Gobio gobio, Salmo trutta m. fario, Chondrostoma nasus, Barbatula barbatula, Barbus barbus. Generic diversity of the fish community corresponded to the transition from grayling to barbel type.
